Description:
This visual support was used to shape the behavior of a student whose favorite reinforcer was listening to music on the computer or a CD player. She would play music, through her headphones, at top volume, putting her hearing at risk. If the teacher could hear her music from the headphones, the teacher would point to the first warning on the visual and prompt the student to turn down the music, marking one of the warnings with a wet erase marker. The student was given 2 more warnings before she had to leave the listening center. Over time, warnings were reduced to two, then one, then zero warnings. The student was able to consistently reduce the music listening volume to an acceptable level over the course of 2 weeks.
